Clip show video, but still good info. Me personally, my usual standard operating procedure with a new gun and/or load is to use a heavier and heavier buffer in steps until its too heavy and the gun starts short stroking. Then I back off one notch and call it good unless the end buffer weight is very close to 4.9oz which is the weight of a solid monolithic steel buffer that is a single piece of solid steel with no weights or anything inside. In which case if its close then that is what I use since they are a cheap buffer that is bomb proof with no "rattle" too them.

If you liked this slide show you should watch my heavy buffer project for sig 716. I believe it’s right up your alley!
