Glock Gen 3 4 5 And Nomad Frame Slide Compatibility

In General

Since the Gen 5 Glock dropped there have been a bunch of questions about compatibility due to the changes Glock made in the Gen 5 platform. The generation 5 came with a redesigned trigger housing group, trigger shoe, trigger bar, trigger spring, slide stop and a few changes in the frame to house the new design. The Take down spring and slide stop spring are a completely different design taking cues from the Glock 43 series. And Glock decided to return to the 2 pin design, although the locking block is exactly the same as the gen 4 19. At this time all glocks on the gen 5 9mm are using the gen 4 locking block, in fact the valley for the 3rd pin is still present on the locking block. What this this means is the Glock 17 is effectively using a glock 19 long barrel since the lugs are now the same as the 19. This was not true in the previous generation.

So where does this leave us with compatibility. Gen 5 19 slides will work on the gen 4 Glock and most aftermarket gen 4 style frames, but not gen 3. The reverse is not true without some changes. Since Gen 5 glocks have the ambi slide stop gen 4 slides will not work, unless you change the slide stop which can be done. Swapping of the trigger group is also possible . So there is a decent amount of interchangeable stuff that can be done since some trigger companies seem to like the gen 3 trigger set ups the best.
