Here's Why I Think Cut Shells Are Stupid: Cut Shell Gel Test

Looks like one Fudd was so triggered that he down voted and reported this video. It was fine through all the automated process, but this confirms my theory that videos get an aggregate score based on factors including text in title, description, and tags as well as content in the video. If the score is "high" enough from what's in the video, it doesn't take much to push a video into the piss dollar. One tag that's too close or one report might be enough. I experimented with the title on this one for several days and any mention of "cut shell" or "stupid" would draw the auto piss dollar. Finally thought I had it before publishing, but some douche probably reported it. The only other explanation, is that the aggregate score includes things from viewer watch history, but I think that's more sophisticated than what YouTube has been doing. Anyhooo, I'll keep you updated.

No, cut shells do not turn birdshot into "basically a slug". They really don't change terminal performance of shot in any substantive way. They are a field expedient way to keep a very tight pattern at significant distance. As such, they could increase the effective range of buckshot. But they can break apart in a pump action, leaving tiny birdshot pellets jammed all over inside the action, taking the smoke pole completely out of a fight. They also have the potential to leave a bore obstruction behind and blow up your gun if you don't check carefully after each shot.
