Would you have waited as long as this officer did to respond in the armed robbery? I think he practiced excellent Active Self Protection in handling the threats that he faced, and I love it when the good guy wins!

What does this video teach us about protecting ourselves in an armed robbery?

1. Situational awareness is your best friend. It doesn't mean that you always are paranoid or living in "condition orange," but it does mean that you know Col. Cooper's color code of awareness and you live by it. Pay attention to your surroundings, and recognize that when you're in public places you need to be more aware of your surroundings than when you're in private. This officer was aware of what was going on around him so that he had some time to consider his action. That was great.
