This video will clear up why I mount my scope in the next video without lapping the scope rings. Make certain you always check the alignment of your scope rings before mounting your scope.
If your alignment bars do not align perfectly within the scope rings after the rings are tightened to the rail, you need to lap the rings. If you are using a quality Picatinny rail that is held to tight tolerances and mating it to Burris Zee Rings more than likely you will not need to lap the rings. Due to desiring a tight tolerance I would recommend a quality Picatinny rail by a reputable company. However, you still need to check alignment, otherwise you may warp/ruin your aluminum scope tube.
Before you can check your scope rings with alignment bars you will need to tighten the scope rings to the Picatinny rail. Then you can check alignment.
Before you can lap the ring you need to establish proper eye relief and tighten the scope rings down on the Picatinny rail. Then you begin lapping the rings.
