Smith & Wesson 442 - #CustomerService, Warranty & Repair - Tragedy Avoided Part 2A * PITD
Overview & process of contacting #SmithWesson Customer Service concerning Warranty and repair of my 442 J-Frame revolver after avoiding tragedy. For details of the issue, check out this #PatriotInTheDark video:
https://youtu.be/8XOoSc1DK50

Process of contacting Smith & Wesson by phone. How to ship firearm for warranty repair. Using #FedEx shipping Center, FedEx Pickup or shipping using an FFL transfer. How to pack up a firearm for shipping. Requirements for shipping, boxing and protecting handgun or rifle. Requirements for pistols and long guns. Documenting problems and issues with firearm for #gunsmith. Recording serial numbers of firearm and shipping receipt.
1) Prepare your firearm for shipment:
PLEASE NOTE: DO NOT SHIP ANY AMMUNITION WITH A FIREARM!
PLEASE ASSURE THE FIREARM HAS BEEN PROPERLY CLEARED PRIOR TO SHIPMENT. THIS INCLUDES REMOVING ANY AMMUNITION FROM THE CHAMBER AND CLEARING ANY BORE OBSTRUCTION. SMITH & WESSON RESERVES THE RIGHT TO TAKE ACTION NECESSARY TO ENSURE A FIREARM IS UNLOADED, WHICH MAY RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE ITEM.

Put your #firearm in the factory box or a sturdy cardboard box with cushioning. Remove all other items & accessories from the box that are not needed for repair, including magazines. (Do not send wood presentation boxes or metal cases)

Include your name, physical shipping address (No P.O. Boxes), daytime phone number, and the reason why you are returning the firearm on a piece of paper inside of the factory box.

For Express handgun shipments, use a FedEx Box (free of charge from a FedEx Customer Center) or a sturdy shipping box. Do not reuse cartons that bear an ORM-D marking or old address labeling.

Securely seal your shipping box and apply the return shipping label.

Important: Write down the tracking number and your Serial Number and save it as a reference. Should you call us, you will need these reference numbers. Smith & Wesson insures authorized returns, and will process claims for replacement in the unlikely event the package should become lost.

2) FedEx Shipping: Firearms may be shipped from:
FedEx Daily Pickup Accounts.
FedEx Authorized Ship Centers.Go to www.fedex.com or call (800) 463-3339 for locations.
Call for a Pickup (800) 463-3339 between 8:30am and 11:00pm EST.
When the recorded greeting starts, Press 9 to access the Premier Customer Service Program.
At the prompt, key in the Premier Service Account Number 999 999 944.
Record your pickup number; it will serve as a receipt.

Do not place firearm packages in FedEx Drop Boxes!

FedEx requires that you verbally inform the receiving FedEx employee that a package contains a firearm.

If package is dropped off at a FedEx Authorized Ship Center, be sure to ask for a receipt.
Important Note: Due to transportation regulations, you cannot ship your package from a firearm dealership if the return address on your label is different than the dealer´s address.
3) Return Shipment to you: Firearms shipments require Adult Signature Service. Federal regulations prohibit a driver from leaving a firearm unless an adult is present to sign and take receipt of the shipment. Do not sign the Driver Release section of any Delivery Notice that FedEx leaves to notify you of an attempted delivery. FedEx guidelines also prohibit Adult Signature packages from being rerouted or held for pickup at any FedEx location. Please, do not attempt to change the address while in transit.

That is all you have to do, Smith & Wesson will pay the shipping cost for you!
