Another episode of outdoor adventures around the Sonora. This time, taking the entire family to Gates Pass located in the Tucson Mountains west of Tucson. Also located in the same area is one of two Saguaro National parks.

Gates pass was created in the late 1800's by a local way-station and saloon owner who wanted to create business to his location. Naturally, he help carve out the pass over the Tucson Mountains and profited from the venture.
Today it is a popular sunset watching and couples hangout for romantic views.
The colors of the Tucson mountains are spectacular filled with purples, reds, greens, tans and dark lava colors that bring out the best for the eye to see. At Gates Pass is Bushmaster Peak. A mountain dedicated to the Arizona militia and famous 158th infantry beloved by Gen. MacArthur.

From the pass looking west, one can see three major man made locations. Namely the Old Tucson Studios, where famous movie stars made many movies and t.v. shows. Secondly, in the distance, the world famous Arizona Sonora Desert Museum is a few miles past the studios. Lastly, the worlds largest ground water pump stations that extract our water, known as the aquifer.
I hope someday you may get the chance to visit Gates Pass and see just how beautiful the desert life can be.
