History: On June 26, 2008, the Supreme Court affirmed by a vote of 5 to 4 the Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit in Heller v. District of Columbia. The Supreme Court struck down provisions of the Firearms Control Regulations Act of 1975 as unconstitutional, determined that handguns are "arms" for the purposes of the Second Amendment, found that the Regulations Act was an unconstitutional ban, and struck down the portion of the Regulations Act that requires all firearms including rifles and shotguns be kept "unloaded and disassembled or bound by a trigger lock". Prior to this decision the Firearms Control Regulation Act of 1975 also restricted residents from owning handguns except for those registered prior to 1975. The majority opinion, written by Justice Antonin Scalia, and the primary dissenting opinion, written by Justice John Paul Stevens, are considered examples of the application of originalism in practice. "Hey, Everybody!

Cheryl Todd here from Gun Freedom Radio and AZFirearms.com!

I just want to take a moment to share with you why I value the Second Amendment, and also to let you know that I am celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the landmark Supreme Court case, Heller vs. DC.

So, first of all, I'm a wife, I'm a mom, and I'm a grandma, and everything I do is rooted in those things. And, my understanding that what we do in our lifetime reverberates forward into all future generations, and when we invest ourselves in not only being educated but involved in protecting and preserving all of our constitutional rights and then instilling those values in the next generations, that is what is going to help our future generations the most.

So, the Second Amendment "¦that is the front guard of all other rights: our Constitutional Rights, our human rights and our civil rights. The Second Amendment is that front guard, and it is that important.

Next, I want to say to Mr. Heller, as we are celebrating the 10th anniversary of that landmark case, Mr. Heller, thank you! Thank you for investing yourself in the way that you did to help to protect and preserve our Second Amendment, and therefore all of our rights! You are a fine example of what one person can do! Too often we hear people say, "I'm only one person. What can I possibly do?" And yet you are that one person who fought all the way through the Supreme Court for all the citizens of this generation and all future generations! And so, I'll just conclude with God Bless America and God bless you Mr. Dick Heller! Thank You, Mr. Heller!
