Virginia Bill Seeks A Firearms Registry
State Sen. Barbara Favola (D-31st) wants to create a firearm registry in Virginia, and the Arlington Democrat is introducing legislation in the 2017 session to study the feasibility of such a program.
Favola's proposed Senate Joint Resolution 229 directs the state's Crime Commission “to study the feasibility and costs of establishing a firearm registration program for firearms purchased in the commonwealth, along with the potential efficacy of firearm registration in reducing firearm-related deaths and injuries,” according to a summary of the bill.
Favola's proposal is sure to meet opposition from Virginia Republicans, who control both chambers of the General Assembly.
