300 AAC Blackout - Why I Love It (Compatibility, Versatility, Re-loading, Applications)

 1585 Views
In General

Reasons I love the 300 AAC Blackout:
1. Compatibility- Same case as 223
2. Versatility- Wide range of projectile options
3. Reloading- Great cartridge for reloading
4. Applications- Great for hunting and suppressor applications
Water Jugs:
110 Vmax - 2 Jugs and kept going
110 Soft point- 2 Jugs and did not go into the third one
150 RN SP - 5 Jugs and kept going
FYI- The 150 grain RN bullets did not feed reliably in my Radical 300 blackout upper.

The problem we 300 AAC owners have is - just because the .308 rounds are made to the same diameter, many of them really don't work as well as they could were they designed for the lower velocities of the 300 Blackout. .308 rounds that are anything above pure-lead will have tougher copper, or some other metal, jackets that don't readily deform or expand at 300 AAC velocities. I'm just not convinced that the development of 300-specific rounds has come far enough yet, as many OEM cartridge manufacturers still use projectiles specifically designed for the .308.
