Aim Surplus Light Weight Lo Mass BCG's with Tim Yan

In General

After this day of shooting and testing, I placed an order for both units for my own use. It is recommended that you run an adjustable gas block when using these BCG's, but we didnt see any issues during our testing. Most shooting was done using Wolf Steel cased ammunition, and steel cased ammunition isnt very heavy on the gas, so I think that played a huge part in the experience. We ran the BCG's dry, neither of us had any lube in our range bags (Odd for me), but that didnt seem to stop the guns from running with any of the 3 units we had on hand. NiB unit is listed at $119 shipped as of 10-15-2015, and the Nitride unit was listed at $109 shipped (Though I got mine for $99 on the date I ordered).

I will do further testing when my order arrives from AimSurpluss.com, I want to see if there is a limit to these low mass light weight units. While I have no plans to run Lightweight units on my hard use guns, but they are very welcome additions to the guns I use primarily for plinking.

Timothy Yan is my go to guy for information on Optics, old and new. He has written for Guns & Ammo, and is regularly found on TheFirearmBlog.com..
