We compare the German G36 rifle to the Austrian Steyr AUG. The G36 has been Germany's infantry rifle since the mid-1990's and the Austrian AUG or Stg.77 has been in service since 1977. Which of these 20th century rifles that make extensive use of polymers is my favorite infantry rifle?

the bundeswehr had the chance/offer to licensebuild the aug before the adoption of the 36. they gave the money to hk as SO often. mid 90s there was about zero reason to develop another 5.56 rifle. the more the better but with development costs in mind: why? should have went with the aug (that should have stanag mag lowers by now or from the start).
