Coffee with Highboy, Can You Just Swap a Magnum Cylinder into a Revolver? Ruger Single Six?

In General

QUESTION: If I have a Ruger single-six and I do not have a magnum cylinder for it, can I use a magnum cylinder that I find in a LGS? Will the cylinder function properly?

The answer is, all cylinders are fit to the revolver for proper headspace, barrel gap, endplay and timing. The revolver must function and offer precision. If the cylinder is not properly fit to the revolver, how can these important issues be verified before firing the gun? Think about it this way, would Ruger throw a cylinder into a new revolver and send it out the door? If Ruger would not do that, then why should the end user do that? The bottom line is the revolver and cylinder need to be taken to a qualified gunsmith for proper fit. God bless and thanks for watchinbg. Highboy
