Desert Eagles are fun. Some people complain of the size and weight, but I find those helpful when shooting it. Did you try any one-handed shots? I found the .44 Magnum Desert Eagle one-handed felt like shooting my M9: wide grip and low recoil - nice. I like the sights on the Desert Eagle also. I think like with all guns, it comes down to personal preference. For right now though, due to the price, the Desert Eagle is just a rental gun for me.
