During the off season you still need to feed the deer to keep them healthy and in the vicinity of your favorite hunting area. But unlike the hunting season, the off season provides more vegetation for deer to eat so your spindle (broadcast) feeder you have may be putting out feed every day with no deer showing up to eat it. That wastes money and feed.

So with this simple design you can still provide feed to the deer except they can come get it as they want it, saving money and feed. This design also allows you to use protein unlike some spindle designs that may clog with protein.

I've tried to make this feeder as "coon proof" as I can but they are smart little bastards. Any ideas would be great!
