Don't be Afraid of Linux.

In General

It seems like so many folks have never heard of the Linux Operating System(not really just a single system but many different ones) and those that have seem to be afraid to move to it because they don't think they'll be able to do their work on it or they think it'll be too hard to use. NONE of that is true anymore. Linux is very stable, easy to use and offers a lot of different ways to do things we need to get done. If you've always been curious then stop waiting and jump on in, the water is fine at the Linux end of the pool. Talk to ya'll later. TN.Frank Out.

Awesome to see a linux video on gunstreamer. I personally run Fedora on most of my computers. I run Fedora/SOAS edition on youngest daughters laptop, and Ubuntu Mate on the older daughters laptop.

I wouldn't recommend Linux Mint as they have had security practice issue's in the past. I'm not sure I can trust them again yet.

For new users I normally recommend ubuntu Mate or Xubuntu.

One of the biggest issue's I've seen with new linux users is moving from a website download to get software to a repo based system. Basically linux uses the "software store" method of getting software kinda like your cell phone. You don't go download a file like with windows.

A kind of lessor known distro I really like is Solus. It is it's own distro from scratch and not just another deb, or rpm based distro. It's a great distro but has had some internal issue's recently. There's just as much drama in the Linux world as there is in the gun world lol.

I love steam. Thousands of games native to linux, including some major AAA titles. Any game with the steam logo where windows, and mac logos are will run on linux. Either natively on linux, or through proton which is a "translator" that can let you run windows games on linux.
Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/
If you want to game on linux though and you have an nvidia / AMD graphics card you will have to learn about PPA's(ubuntu), or RPMFusion(Fedora). Solus has a built in hardware drivers setting that will install whatever drivers you need for best graphics performance with just a few clicks of the mouse.

Some other software I use a lot is "libreOffice" for any documents, spreadsheets, etc.. GIMP is a great photo editor(PhotoShop).
And OBS is an amazing desktop recording / streaming app.
