Final field op
''The mission of field artillery is to destroy, neutralize, or suppress the enemy by cannon, rocket, and missile fire and to help integrate all fire support assets into combined arms operations.''
Every wonder what it is like to be a 13B in the united States Army. Well here is a short video to give you a small glimpse of what we do. Some background information, there are 3 main types of artillery. There is light towed or airborne, medium towed, and heavy mechanized. Light artillery tends to consist of a M119A3 that can be loaded onto an aircraft and dropped along with paratroopers behind enemy lines. They shoot a 105mm high explosive shell. Its is easy to maneuver since it is very light and compact. It can also be towed using a small truck (Humvee). Medium towed is usually towed with a 5 ton truck. It is shoots a 155mm high explosive projectile. It can also Air assaulted (flown in) into combat using a chinook helicopter. Lastly we have heavy self propelled artillery. It also shoots a 155mm high explosive projectile. It uses a tracked system like a tank to maneuver through terrain. It can shoot and conduct survival movements faster that the other howitzers because all it has to do is stow the tube and drive. Artillery is very fun but also very demanding MOS in the United States military. The ordinance is extremely heavy and requires that soldiers be physically fit to receive, load, unload and shoot. Below are links to videos of the other 2 types of artillery.
