Gun Rights Policy Conference 2018: Rob Pincus Mitigating Gun Risks

Lara Smith of the Liberal Gun Club asked Rob Pincus what he thought the gun community needed to do better in order to have more positive influence over the image of guns and gun owners in American Culture.
Pincus believes it is important for Gun Owners to acknowledge the risks that come with possession and use of firearms. Gun owners need to be able to articulate the benefits of gun ownership and the means through which Responsible Gun Owners mitigate the risks through proper gun handling, storage, access control, maintaining their equipment, planning appropriately for defensive use, training and practicing their skills.
Of course, firearms owners need to be aware of the best practices in regard to being responsible and that is up to Us... the gun industry and the gun community.
By admitting that not all firearms owners are always as responsible as they should be, and demonstrating that our community condemns negligence, we gain credibility. That credibility is the means through which we influence the culture. Pincus believes that if we do not demonstrate a sincere interest in promoting and practicing firearms responsibility within our ranks, we risk having someone else's concept of "responsibility" legislated upon us in the form of stricter gun control laws.
