Our guest today is Connor Boyack. Connor is founder and president of Libertas Institute, a free market think tank in Utah.
Named one of Utah's most politically influential people by The Salt Lake Tribune, Connor's leadership has led to dozens of legislative victories spanning a wide range of areas such as privacy, government transparency, property rights, drug policy, education, personal freedom, and more.
A public speaker and author of 21 books, Connor is best known for The Tuttle Twins books, a children's series introducing young readers to economic, political, and civic principles.
Connor lives near Salt Lake City, Utah, with his wife and two homeschooled children.
1) Let's start with the title of one of your Tuttle Twins books, because I think this is on everyone's minds... the "Fate of the Future". What is the fate of our future?
2) Our children are our future, and fortune favors those who know their history. Our educational system seems to be in disarray and decay. In that vein, you have a new educational magazine coming out. Tell us about that.
- Tuttle Times"”a new monthly magazine for children ages 5-12 with lessons, activities, and projects to learn all kinds of important information about how the world works.
3) Politicians at every level are overstepping anything that our Founding Documents allow them to do with their limited powers. Everyday it seems there are several insults to our Freedoms. Often we know it's wrong, but sometimes in our busy lives we can't put our finger on what is wrong. Your Podcast "The Way The World Works" offers people bite-sized wisdom to try to help us keep up. What have been some of your most popular episodes?
4) Our financial system is under attack in several ways. There is a push for a cashless society, inflation is already gobbling up the value of our US Dollar, and crypto is a murky, volatile and confusing topic. Your newsletter recently mentioned the 50-year anniversary of President Richard Nixon's "New Economic Policy". What is the significance of his action half a century ago?
- On August 15th, 1971, the then-President announced a plan for a "New Economic Policy." This included executive orders for 10% surcharges on imported goods and freezes on wages and prices. Worst of all, it ended the liquidity between U.S. gold and U.S. dollars. With the sweep of a pen, one man forced government control over free enterprise and brought us into the era of fiat money.
5) One last question. A Socialist magazine, titled "Current Affairs" took issue with your children's books. Instead their article helped sell a ton of your books. Tell us about that and also about your book for teens, called "How to Not Suck at Life"...which takes us right back to the topic of being a Socialist.
