Ham Radio Saves The Day! 911 Outage In Town!

A quick look at how ham radio works when nothing else will. Our town lost a major ATT Line and it took down ALL the ATMs, ALL the debit card readers, every last ATT Phone, landlines, and our 911 center in town.

The EOC (Emergency Operations Center) Called us hams out with ARES (Amateur radio emergency service) to respond and set up sort of "mobile police call boxes" around town in case someone needed 911 service for an emergency. The local media interrupted programming and let everyone in town know where we were located and we stayed operational for about 2 hours.

Just goes to show you how quickly things can get ugly and how Ham radio can not only get you info in an emergency but allow you to help out too!
