Achieving the proper grip and stance is critical to your ability to shoot your firearm safety and accurately.

Two-handed pistol grip
When gripping a pistol it's important to have a firm grip with your shooting hand, for me this is my right hand. The web between your trigger finger and thumb should be as high up on the firearm as possible with your trigger finger resting on the frame and your thumb should be pointing forward. Your non-shooting hand, left hand, should be wrapped around your right hand. your pointer finger should be touching the bottom of the trigger guard and thumb of your non-shooting hand should be pointing forward underneath the thumb of your shooting hand. It's important that you have a firm grip with both hands and that your hands completely surround the firearm with no visible gaps. Your wrists should be solid. This allows the firearm to cycle properly during the firing sequence. If you have a loose grip the firearm will not be able to extract the old round and load the new round. This will cause your firearm to jam every time you pull the trigger.

Proper Stance
A proper stance with your firearm is one that is comfortable, balanced and stable. The two most popular stances today are the isosceles and weaver stance. The isosceles stance means your feet are shoulder width apart, knees are slightly bent and the weight is on the balls of your feet. You should also be leaning slightly forward. Your arms are fully extended. This is a well-balanced position that will absorb most of the recoil during shooting. The second most popular stance is the weaver stance. You see this stance depicted in movies all the time. If your a right handed shooter, your left leg would be placed directly underneath your left shoulder and your right leg would be canted slightly behind your right should. Your right arm will be fully extended and your left arm will be bent. Again it's important that you're leaning slightly forward and that you are well balanced.

Having a proper grip and stance is a foundational skill that you must develop if you want to become an exceptional shooter. Practice your grip and stance at home daily until you can do it perfectly every single time.
