That Illinois proposal is just what was done in other authoritarian regimes through history like Germany, Russia, Cuba, Massachusetts, etc. One bright spot is that Illinois is in the 7th Circuit of Appeals which to my understanding is rather 2A friendly with a majority of justices appointed by Reagan, both Bushes and Trump and only two Obama appointees. Hopefully a favorable 2A SCOTUS ruling on the NY suit that comes up in October will have a devastating outcome for gun control and a positive outcome strengthening the Bill of Rights.
