I'm super excited about getting this pistol in my hands today.
If you've followed my work, you known I've been very critical of #kimberamerica for marketing their subcompact .45s as Defensive Handguns... I've never seen one make it to Lunchtime on Day One of a class without major issues... rarely has any student continued to try to suffer through an entire day with one. Many other instructors have had similar experiences and the whole idea of a "Subcompact .45 ACP 1911" has been pretty universally determined to be a bad idea in regard to reliability... which is the primary important characteristic of a defensive gun.
So, why am I excited about getting a tiny Kimber Pistol ? Well, this is something new. I heard about this pistol being developed last year, but wasn't invited to be part of the pre-release T&E or development... shocking! 😉.
I held the gun at shot and was impressed with the feel. I had a conversation with them at IWA and (apparently) they understood that I was seriously wanting to check it out and give it a fair shot. In fact, at this point, I'm really hopeful that it is awesome. Maybe the read my Respectful Irreverence" article and trusted that I was really going to be objective? Or.... maybe they didn't realize that I am "that Rob Pincus"? 😳... Either way, I've got it now.
