Revolver VS. Auto Average Situation: 3 Rounds 3 Yards 3 Seconds

I hear it daily "revolvers are antiquated", "revolvers are grandpa's cowboy gun", "revolvers don't hold enough ammo", and the list goes on to infinity said by those whom for whatever reason cannot fathom carrying a revolver. But, if you look at the average situation (not law enforcement), you will see that the typical average self defense situation with a gun is three rounds fired, from three yards and within three seconds. So my take on this, is why are so many people saying "6 rounds is not enough!!!!", when the likelihood of them firing more than 3 rounds with WHICHEVER handgun they are carrying, is very low.
