Smith & Wesson 586, .357, Pre-Lock, No Dash, 4
The 586 is a decedent of the 581 which lacks the rear adjustable sights. I am not impressed with the re-introduction of the classic line due to the Hillary Hole and MIM parts.
I decided to look for earlier versions. The best versions for the 586 are the no-dash to the 586-4. If you stay within that range you'll have a solid revolver.
*Correction:* This is a 1986 manufacture. S&W customer service told me it was an 84. I just bought the Standard Catalog of the Smith and Wesson 4th Ed. It is the most definitive authority. The 586-1 came out in 1986. Mine was made the end of the no-dash run before the -1 came out. I don't have the month of manufacture and S&W didn't either.
