No matter what personal defense ammo you purchase for your carry gun, you need to verify that it actually cycles in the pistol. This means you should buy at least two boxes of the ammo you decide to use.

I realize that specialized defense ammo costs many times more than your typical range ammo. However, if you plan to bet your life on this personal defense ammo, you need to verify that it will actually work in your gun. The cost is high up front with the extra box of ammo, but the cost on the back end if the ammo fails to function in your pistol is even bigger.

I run with CCI 9mm Shotshells for the first couple of rounds in my 9mm handgun when hunting in South Texas. Snakes are very prevalent in this area of the state. You have to be vigilant when walking around, getting out of your truck to open a gate, even walking outside the house or RV. So having something that can take out a snake at close range and reduce the change of ricochet is a nice option. Since I run with a 9mm as my personal weapon, I use CCI shotshells. These are somewhat difficult to find in the stores and you may need to search online. The cost runs about $15, but is worth it when you encounter a South Texas Rattler. Revolver shotshells seem to be more abundant in the big box stores, so if you plan to carry a revolver, you may be in luck when shopping for specialized ammo.

The video goes over the shot pattern and typical range or distance that you might actually shoot the ammo at. I also demonstrate a failure to feed where the plastic casing containing the shot breaks and the BB's spill out into the frame of the pistol.
