Talking to people outside of the Gun Community: Validating Concerns

In General

Rob Pincus and Mike Sodini discuss gun rights advocacy strategies for talking to people who don't understand the gun community, are okay with gun control or who may be new to gun ownership.

Mike is the founder of Walk The Talk America, an organization that has significantly impacted the way the gun community deals with potential problems at the intersection of guns & mental health. Through his work with WTTA, Mike interacts with many people who are pro-gun-control and tries to help them understand how we are working to reduce negative outcomes without restricting rights. Acknowledging that their concerns are valid and finding ways to address them outside of legislation or educating them about how they may have misunderstood the real risks is a big part of gun rights advocacy.

Mike considers himself the "in-gun gun-guy" because he wasn't brought up in a pro-gun culture, nor has he spent a colossal amount of time engaged in shooting activities, despite being the president of Eagle Imports for well over a decade and having been in one way or another connected to the gun industry for three decades.
