The Oatman Massacre
************
ERROR CORRECTION:
I misspoke at the end of the this video stating that Olive's husband landed up in an asylum, but that is incorrect, it was Rev. Stratton, not her husband.
************
On February 18th, 1851 the Oatman family was nearly wiped out by hostile Yavapai indians. Olive and her younger sister Mary Ann were taken as slaves, but later traded to the Mojave people while their brother, Lorenzo, searched for them diligently.
The narrative of this story became plagued with hyperbole and xenophobia of the time as written about in the best selling novel, Captivity of the Oatman Girls, written by Rev. Stratton.
In this video we attempt to ascertain the true story from the lore.
