Thoughts on the term "Patriot" and those who would co-opt it.

In General

After the recent would-be revolutionaries (Bundy Gang) in Eastern Oregon pushed their antics to the point where one man got killed and several of their group were arrested, there was a backlash from their small, but vocal, minority of supporters in the Pro-2A Community accusing anyone not supporting them of not being "Patriots". Personally, I had enough after a few days of having my own love of country being questioned and hearing that the same was happening to others. I believe in the "WE the people" nature of the USA. Not the "Us & Them" Fear Mongering version that some are touting as the only way to express "patriotism". Honestly, there are some who sound like Nazi Recruiters in late 1920's Germany, not Americans looking for common ground and rational solutions to our domestic differences. Radical Nationalism that seeks to be Ex-clusive as opposed to In-Clusive is anti-American in my opinion.... fascism isn't my thing. Nor, do I enjoy listening to those who would play the helpless victim being oppressed or constantly offended by an imaginary "they".
Our country isn't perfect... but, that's okay.
There are many ways to express love of country and to celebrate being an American. Many different creeds, beliefs, religions, lifestyles and priorities exist in our citizenry... those that don't hurt any other's ability to take advantage of the opportunities we have in this country should be tolerated at least, hopefully respected and, ultimately, supported as an expression of the "Pursuit of Happiness" and taking advantage of the "Blessings of Liberty".
