and one of the best ways I've heard this described is as a Second Amendment Cake
Our Forefathers recognizing our natural born right to arms ensured that right with a thing called the 2nd Amendment
A tasty cake with liberty icing and layers of individual freedom inside and everything was good for almost 160 years until the first call for "compromise" was brought forward, and we DID compromise, we gave away half of that original cake in the 1934 NFA (National Firearms Act)
What is the Second Amendment? Is it cake? no, but we want cake & guns

The 2nd Amendment does not grant the right to keep and bear arms. It only state that right shall not be infringed. The right already exists under the Declaration of Independence. "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." The right to defend our lives and liberty is Creator/God given. Not a right given by a government. That right still exists whether there is a 2nd Amendment or not. It cannot be taken away by any person or government. All gun control is infringement and a violation of the 2nd Amendment and all gun control can be challenged on that basis. All gun control is illegal. If you want to restore the 2nd Amendment then challenge all the illegal laws against it as infringement.
