Reminds me of a hidden pond I used to fish in back in 90-92 when stationed at Newport, Rhode Island. It was In the Middletown area and you had to know where it was. Had a dirt path you had to walk a half mile down to get to like you did this one. Probably a road to it now. It was full of largemouth bass (small in size compared to the ones here in the south) and trout. My buddy was from New Hampshire and used to fly fish for the trout. I bass fished. Loved it. Try jitterbugs in the morning when the water is very still. Love top water fishing for bass and used to slay them up there. Thanks for sharing.

I hate to say it but the only thing I liked about being stationed there was the fishing. I was in a small boat unit and when the blue fish and stipper would run in the spring all work would stop and we would all be fishing. It was unbelievable. We used to catch hundreds of pounds of squid in the spring o n duty days and freeze them then we would do our training ops in Buzzard bay and cape cod. At night when we were done working the boats would would have a fishing tournament. We would chum the water with the squid we had caught by running them down the garbage disposal In the galley. We would fish all night. Caught a lot of fish and sharks. We took pictures and let them all go. It didn’t count in the tournament if you kept the fish. Was the best part of being stationed there. Unbelievable fishing.
