Showing that a Mosin Nagant Bolt can be difficult to close because of the incorrect gap between the receiver and the magazine box.

I would just put some shims between the magazine and the stock. Maybe file some thin washers to fit in the slots and the screws can run up through the holes or cut some brass to fit and drill holes for the screws to go through.

That is absolutely an acceptable way to shim up the magazine box.
